Abstract
To minimize the industries environmental impacts, the use of sustainable building materials has become the focus of research and development in achieving the goal of sustainable construction. One way of creating sustainable materials is by utilizing waste, thus, it can cut the emission that comes from extracting the raw material. This research will focus on sustainable materials in the form of eco-bricks made from roof waste and plastic waste, as bricks are still commonly used in building construction in Indonesia. The production processes of plastic bricks and roof-waste bricks are clearly different. Roof-waste bricks are manually produced in limited quantities at a small-scale industry, while plastic bricks are produced on a factory scale using modern machinery. Although both types of bricks utilize waste to reduce emissions from extracting raw materials, the different production methods make the comparison of the life cycle assessments of both bricks interesting to investigate. Additionally, comparing the physical properties and thermal performance of roof-waste bricks and plastic bricks to ordinary bricks is necessary to assess their potential as proper sustainable materials.
